Hamburgers, Hydrogenated Oil & History.

How many days per week does your child eat at school?  Remember to count the breakfast as well. Do you have any idea what is being fed to them there? Sure you have the menu that they send home, but are you paying attention to the types of food, and the ingredients in each? 

The picture to the left shows hamburger, french fries, cookie, orange slices - on the menu.  Sounds decent.  How about this menu (just in the burger): enriched wheat flour, wheat gluten, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate, Vegetable Shortening (Partially Hydrogenated Soybean, Cottonseed, and/or Canola Oils Dextrose, Sugar, Soy Oil, Corn Starch, Dough Conditioners, Calcium Stearoyl Lactylate (CSL), Mono- Diglycerides, Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Esters of Mono- Diglycerides (DATEM), Polysorbate 60, Calcium Sulfate, Ammonium Sulfate, Monocalcium Phosphate, Ascorbic Acid, Enzyme, Potassium Iodate, Calcium Peroxide, L. Cysteine, Corn Syrup Solids, Guar Gum, Sodium Diacetate, Algin. Hamburger: 100% Beef, Rehydrated Onion?

I like how it includes 100% beef.  Does that mean 100% beef by-products, leftovers, guts, or does that mean the meat came from 100% cow? To the untrained eye it may seem like a real hamburger, but it really isn't, not even close.  That burger is a mixture of dangerous chemicals, additives, residues, hydrogenated oils, and other toxic ingredients. Think about how many times a child eats this type of processed, packaged, chemicalized food on a yearly basis.  Just at school!  And we wonder why they can't focus, aren't listening, and fidgeting in the chair.

Autism is at an all-time high, 1 in 37 boys.  ADD/ADHD is at an all-time high1, 7.5% of children. Child depression and suicidality at an all-time high2, there are more kids on medications than ever before, and so many more complications are at all time highs.  Would you agree that if these children ate a litlle bit better, (not what you see above), that the incidence of these issues would reduce?

My children are allowed to eat school lunch 1 time per week.  The other 4 days we pack their lunch.  Typical packed luch includes: turkey sandwich with mustard on whole grain bread (with no HFCS), organic cookies or crackers, some type of fruit, 100% juice or water, nuts or veges with ranch. I may throw in some organic fruit snacks!  The amazing thing is THEY EAT IT ALL, and LOVE IT. Actually, my children prefer packed lunch over buying anyday.  When they do buy, they don't even eat everything that's given to them.

It may sound easier to just have them buy lunch, and not take the time to pack.  It may look cheaper than going out and purchasing all the healthier groceries/ingredients. It might even make you feel like a good, caring parent by letting them eat what they want.  The reality is these choices are killing them. As parents we have to take responsibility for what they put into their mouths, and ultimate responsibility for their health and longevity.

The Man In The Arena.

Last night I went to see the new movie, Invictus. The story is about how Nelson Mandela used the 1995 rugby team to save his countrymen.  While he was incarcerated he read the poem Invictus to keep him inspired. The movie tells how President Mandela gave the poem to the captain of the rugby team so he could inspire his teammates to victory in the World Cup.

The poem ends in "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul."

That is a powerful statement that must be read and re-read.  Can you actually understand and BELIEVE that you are the master of your fate? Or do you continue to make excuses for your short-comings?

It's not my fault, I didn't do it, I don't have time, there is not any money, the economy is bad, I thought this was a scam, It's too hard, too far to drive,  I'm afraid to change, genetics...

I hear reasons on a daily basis on why and how patients can't get better in their health, and it saddens me dearly.  My first response is to ask how well are you doing with your exercise?  How well are you doing with your nutrition? Your reduction of toxins?  Your schedule of adjustments? If your answer is not that well, or if you have an excuse as to why it wasn't better, who's at fault? Your chiropractor, your boss, or your bad genes? Look in the mirror. It's you.

There are so many people in our world that achieve great things, and have gone through great adversity getting there. Nelson Mandela went on the lead a country after incarceration and segregation. He worked hard and woke up early to fulfill his dream...his purpose in life.  Nobody said the journey was going to be easy.  In fact you have to expect confrontation and obstacles along the way. Do you give up as soon as you hit those obstacles, or do you get back up, shake it off, thank God for the opportunity to learn from the challenge, and move forward again? Or do you blame something other than you?

God has called you to be great and wants you to succeed.  When you make excuses, you are telling Him you can't, or worse yet you won't.

A goal in 2010 is to take responsibility for your actions. Be responsible for your health. Tell others about the power that is inside of you that heals, and how when you commit to change-you change. Overcome your challenges and work harder than you have in your life. Become that Man in the Arena.

The Man in the Arena is the title of a speech given by Teddy Roosevelt on April 23, 1910. (the poem that was actually given to the rugby captain by Mandela was not Invictus, but this one)

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

Diabetic Elimination

Just today I had 3 patients tell me that they were off of all diabetic medications, and blood sugar levels are now normal. Along with that they are off blood pressure and cholesterol medications. What was their secret, and how come so many Americans suffer from this epidemic?

If there was a "cure" for diabetes, do you think that your medical doctor is going to tell you about it? Not likely. There is no money in a cure, but only in multiple prescriptions and office visits for life. There is a missing link that Doctors are not telling their patients...that there IS a cure. It happens daily in my office.

1. The Standard American Diet (S.A.D.)Americans ingest way too much sugar daily. Not only in Mountain Dew, but hidden in breads, pastas, grains, condiments, fruits, juices. Sugar spikes insulin. Diabetics take insulin to lower sugar. If you eliminate sugars, than there is NO NEED for insulin medications!

2. Insulin Resistance.At the cellular level there are receptors for insulin. Through high sugar levels (inflammation), toxicity, leptin imbalance, and other avenues the receptors will burn out. This creates an inability for the cells to "hear" insulin. If you do a blood test on a diabetic you will see that they have high levels of insulin- so why inject more?? Eliminate the reason why your body cannot hear it, and repair the receptors.

3. Subluxation.Damage to the nervous system that controls ALL body function will create imbalance and disease. The brain tells the pancreas to produce insulin. If the nerve or electric pathway to the pancreas is damaged, the organ won't do what it is supposed to do. Remove the interference to allow the body to produce normal levels of insulin...no need for artificial production through a drug.

Ouch, watch my prostate!

Recently I was hanging out the guys in my family and a strange conversation arose.  The older guys were talking about getting their prostates checked.  (For a guy its kind of a weird procedure, someone poking around down there!) It turned into a 20 minute conversation on who they go to, did they like it, what they would do if the doctor found something.  At family get-togethers I typically keep my mouth shut on health beliefs for they all know my views on what I believe should or should not be done.  But I felt I had to say something to these guys.  I gave them a reality check.

I asked them that if the doctor did find an abnormality on the test, what would you do?  Would you do more tests?  Would you let them cut it out?  Would you do chemotherapy or radiation?  Would you be scared and stressed out of your mind? What would be the procedure to fix whatever abnormality was found?  The concensus was that they would probably not do any dangerous medical procedure, but rather change their habits to take care of the problem naturally.  Most of the guys were scared to do any sort of radiation and chemo.

The solutions were many-They would eat a little better, eliminating some of the "junk food", they would exercise a little more, they would try to eliminate some of the toxins in their bodies, they would spend more quality time with their families, they would reduce some of their daily stress load, and a couple said they woould be getting more chiropractic adjustments.

Than why don't you do all of those things NOW?

Why do people WAIT until they are diagnosed with disease from a random medical test to start taking care of themselves?  This is the difference of being RE-active versus PRO-active.  The medical model of disease teaches us to wait unitl we are sick to take care of our bodies, rely on a test to determine whether we are sick or not (which is always too late), then take a drug, perform surgery, or do nothing to fix it.  Does this system work??

The Maximized Living model of health teaches us to take care of our bodies now. Eat right, exercise, lower stress and build peace, avoid and reduce toxins, and most of all have healthy nervous systems through chiropractic adjustments.  This way of living PREVENTS us from getting prostate cancer later in life.

Gold Medal Living

 This week I traveled to the World Police and Fire Games in Vancouver,  
BC
. What a great opportunity and privelage it was to be the  
chiropractor for such high class athletes. It's amazing how men and  
women that have full-time work serving their country as police and  
fire still excelled in their sports. It simply shows the hard work and  
dedication they make daily to become more than just "doing their job".

I always enjoy hanging around people that are successful, work hard,  
and expect the best. I truly feel that it brings myself to a higher  
level. I suggest that if you are hanging with those that are always  
negative to find new friends!   But I got to step back and observe the  
athletes that won medals consistently, the ones that everyone else  
were afraid of.  I noticed that every single one of them had serious  
laser beam focus and intensity. You could easily see it in their eyes,  
posture, and voice. They avoided the other athletes, iPod in, paced up  
and down the track, didn't talk or laugh and went into their sport  
with one thing on their mind...to win.  The other athletes noticed  
this as well- some joked about it, some intimidated by it. One thing  
was for sure they made their presence known, and losing was not an  
option.

I once read an article about Tiger Woods and a secret to his success.  
Tiger said that he walks onto the course knowing that he is going to  
win. No one is going to beat him, he is simply the best. He has  
complete focus on his own game and cares nothing about every one  
elses'.  He knows that if he concentrates on playing his own game to  
his potential every other player will crumble around him.   
Intimidation, intensity, strength?

Whether you are a world class athlete or a high school student are you  
walking into your life with the same level of focus and intensity?   
Are you looking for ways that you will fail, how someone else is doing  
a better job than you, how that sale is too difficult to pay off, how  
your kids are behind in class?  Or are you expecting world class  
success
?  Do you know it in you heart that you are the best at that  
you do?  No on can beat you. No one can do what you do better. Every  
one else around you shivers when you walk in the room. You are the  
champ.

Go for the "gold" in everything you do.

Cancer Overdiagnoses

Organized Screening Leads to Breast Cancer Overdiagnosis

Mammography-detected cancers represent "overdiagnosis" in about one third of cases, according to an international study published online in BMJ. (Overdiagnosis is the detection of cancers that will not ultimately cause symptoms or death.)
Researchers reviewed published trends in breast cancer incidence for 7 years before and 7 after the full implementation of publicly organized screening in the U.K., Canada, Australia, Sweden, and Norway. After adjustment for the presence of older, previously screened women, the researchers concluded that about half the cancers detected represented overdiagnosis. When carcinomas in situ were excluded, the proportion was about one third.
An American editorialist writes: "The question is no longer whether overdiagnosis occurs, but how often it occurs." He recommends a trial "to test higher thresholds [of diagnosis], such as only recommending biopsy for breast masses larger than a certain size."
 
Every body has about 100-10,000 cancer cells wihin at any given moment.  Cancer cells are simply the bad cells that your body must eliminate to ensure a proper homeostasis.  Bad cells are replaced with good cells, that bad gets eaten up by your immune system.  Someone 'diagnosed' with cancer simply has a bunch of bad cells that cannot get eliminated by the body.  So understand that everyone has 'cancer'-- it's simply how your body can fight it.  Reasons/causes of why a body doesn't eliminate them:
Weakened Immune System--
Improper Nutrition (acidic diets, sugars, colorings and additives, hydrogenated oils, lack of vitmamins and minerals)
Lack of oxygen at the cellular level (minimal to no exercise)
Toxicity burden (medications, chemo, amalgam fillings, household chemicals, etc)
Subluxation causing damage to the nervous system
Stress
 
So the recent article shows that there is an over-diagnoses of cancer.  My guess is so that more prescriptions, office visits, and hospital stays can be billed!  All of that money put into the tests and treatments should be going into building and maintaining HEALTH!  The answer is not more tests, treatments, modalities, mammograms, MRIs...it MORE HEALTH!  A Maximized Living LIFESTYLE helps you to achieve this.

Delay or lose a LIFE!

I had a few wrenching stories last week in practice, I felt that it was on my heart to talk about. Stories that should have never happened, could have been prevented, and if understood can potentially save someone’s life in the future.
1.       A patient told me that her son-in-law had just suffered a heart attack, his second. He is only in his mid fifties. Of course my heart went out to the patient; I don’t like to hear of anyone suffering from disease conditions- especially those in my circle of association. I advised her that that guy needed to get in our office immediately to get checked for nerve interference to his heart. He never made it into my office, and now is diagnosed permanent brain damage. 
2.       A different patient has a brother that lives in another state, he has scoliosis, has had 2 strokes, is suffering chronic pain, etc. I referred him to a Maximized Living Chiropractor that happens to be in his area. I found out this morning that this guy chose not to get checked by the chiropractor because he felt that his condition couldn’t be helped. He called but never made it to the office.
3.        A third patient got diagnosed with diabetes. Her M.D. told her that her blood sugar was out of control, her pancreas had shut down, and she needed to be on insulin for the rest of her life…(and he didn’t even do any lab tests to figure all this out). Coincidentally I am holding a diabetes workshop a week later, informing patients where the disease comes from and how to fight it naturally. She told me that she had “other plans” that day and would not be there.
What is on my heart is that every one of these people has had an opportunity to resolve their conditions, or at least gotten them checked properly. All it took was to get evaluated! When we ask or “highly suggest” that you or  someone you know get checked for subluxation- it is a very serious request. Subluxation, or damage on a nerve, will shut the energy off from the brain to that organ of destination. This causes disease and even death to the organ. Nerve pressure long enough or bad enough on the heart will cause heart dis-ease! Pressure on the nerve to the pancrease- diabetes. Scoliosis or twisting of the spinal cord- global disease and dysfunction, lowered immunity.
What does it take to get a simple x-ray, or consultation with someone that specializes in nerve interference- a Maximized Living Chiropractor? What if that exam was FREE? How much longer are you willing to put your life on hold because you “don’t think that chiropractic can help?” Are you willing to have one more heart attack before you get your nervous system checked? Are you going to let one more family member sit at home with pressure on the nerve to their heart, or are you going to drag them into the office? Are you going to trust the diagnoses of the doctor that only gives you a drug for your ails? 
Friends, we care about you so much. I hate to hear about another soul that was lost because you couldn’t see the big idea. Do not let another day go by with dangerous subluxation in your spine. If you think you don’t have any, get checked anyway to make sure. Your LIFE is worth an hour of time at our office. Your BROTHER is worth a phone call with a referral to a local chiropractor and a push to get there. Your SON is worth asking me to go to the hospital so I can adjust his atlas and help his heart work better. DO NOT DELAY because you just could lose a LIFE!
