Hamburgers, Hydrogenated Oil & History.
How many days per week does your child eat at school? Remember to count the breakfast as well. Do you have any idea what is being fed to them there? Sure you have the menu that they send home, but are you paying attention to the types of food, and the ingredients in each?
The picture to the left shows hamburger, french fries, cookie, orange slices - on the menu. Sounds decent. How about this menu (just in the burger): enriched wheat flour, wheat gluten, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate, Vegetable Shortening (Partially Hydrogenated Soybean, Cottonseed, and/or Canola Oils Dextrose, Sugar, Soy Oil, Corn Starch, Dough Conditioners, Calcium Stearoyl Lactylate (CSL), Mono- Diglycerides, Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Esters of Mono- Diglycerides (DATEM), Polysorbate 60, Calcium Sulfate, Ammonium Sulfate, Monocalcium Phosphate, Ascorbic Acid, Enzyme, Potassium Iodate, Calcium Peroxide, L. Cysteine, Corn Syrup Solids, Guar Gum, Sodium Diacetate, Algin. Hamburger: 100% Beef, Rehydrated Onion?
I like how it includes 100% beef. Does that mean 100% beef by-products, leftovers, guts, or does that mean the meat came from 100% cow? To the untrained eye it may seem like a real hamburger, but it really isn't, not even close. That burger is a mixture of dangerous chemicals, additives, residues, hydrogenated oils, and other toxic ingredients. Think about how many times a child eats this type of processed, packaged, chemicalized food on a yearly basis. Just at school! And we wonder why they can't focus, aren't listening, and fidgeting in the chair.
Autism is at an all-time high, 1 in 37 boys. ADD/ADHD is at an all-time high1, 7.5% of children. Child depression and suicidality at an all-time high2, there are more kids on medications than ever before, and so many more complications are at all time highs. Would you agree that if these children ate a litlle bit better, (not what you see above), that the incidence of these issues would reduce?
My children are allowed to eat school lunch 1 time per week. The other 4 days we pack their lunch. Typical packed luch includes: turkey sandwich with mustard on whole grain bread (with no HFCS), organic cookies or crackers, some type of fruit, 100% juice or water, nuts or veges with ranch. I may throw in some organic fruit snacks! The amazing thing is THEY EAT IT ALL, and LOVE IT. Actually, my children prefer packed lunch over buying anyday. When they do buy, they don't even eat everything that's given to them.
It may sound easier to just have them buy lunch, and not take the time to pack. It may look cheaper than going out and purchasing all the healthier groceries/ingredients. It might even make you feel like a good, caring parent by letting them eat what they want. The reality is these choices are killing them. As parents we have to take responsibility for what they put into their mouths, and ultimate responsibility for their health and longevity.
One key essential to a Maximized Living LIFESTYLE is quality nutrients. Nutrients not only for disease prevention, but for health achievement. A growing body needs good fuel. Combine that with a healthy nerve system and they'll be as "golden" as the fries!
